México-based design studio SHIFT has created a series of signature tiles, for Opticreto’s concrete tile division Murum. Conceived as a collection that mixes the designers’ findings and advances in concrete experimentation with their own visual language, the SCALES series consists of three distinct tiles that generate a singular pattern for interior and exterior applications: Stealth, Dunes and Pulse.
Inspired primarily by 2D geometric patterns SCALES’ development challenge centered on generating visually striking, yet aesthetically pleasing surfaces in three dimensions. SHIFT aimed to create interesting and pronounced sculptural volumes that would project a more textured look, resulting in deeper contrasts when reacting to lighting in different environments.
